A Poker Room Review of the Three Kinds of Texas Hold'em

There are three main types of Texas hold'em games. Limit hold'em is a Texas hold'em game in which predetermined betting increments are in place before the game begins. For example, a game of limit hold'em will often have betting increments set at five dollars. This means that every raise must be five dollars more than the current bet. This is the most common kind of Texas hold'em in brick and mortar casinos in regions of the United States where casino gambling is legal.

Pot limit Texas hold'em generally has higher stakes than limit Texas hold'em. In pot limit Texas hold'em, all raises are capped at doubling the existing pot amount. So, if the current pot is $500, the highest possible raise is $500. Pot limit hold'em is less risky than no limit hold'em, but certainly involves more money and higher stakes than limit Texas hold'em.

No limit Texas hold'em is pretty much what it sounds like it is. In no limit Texas hold'em, there are no predetermined rules and maximums placed on betting amounts. Most major poker tournaments, both in brick and mortar casinos, and in online poker rooms, are no limit hold'em games. This is because no limit games get a lot of publicity, both for the players and the hosting gaming room.

Poker players need to be aware of the differences in hold'em game rules as the games are played differently because of the money involved. Poker room review sites often offer insight into how each type of hold'em is played, and how many online poker rooms run each type of Texas hold'em. Many wealthy sharks and professional poker players play no limit hold'em most often, because so much is there to be won (or lost). For fish, or newcomers to the world of online poker rooms, limit hold'em with small raise increments is usually the best place to start. Poker room reviews can also help players find the best online poker rooms for each type of hold'em game and each player skill level. Though many professional poker players often end up playing mostly at one particular poker room, other players may find that changing rooms based on the type of hold'em sometimes makes more sense.
